Permanence

Rash-driving on the streets
we've come to the end of the summer.
Dinner flames blazing in the stoves.
Walking hand-in-hand in rain.
The sweet stolen kiss in the corner.
And the gentle warmth within our hearts
twisting, warning, watching
the summer close its eyes
for the umpteenth year in a row.
