Two poems by Asad Zaidi

Islamabad

It was pleasant       the sun was mild
the breeze gentle    a man on foot
could have carried on for miles
without trouble

All this was a misnomer though

When Shuklaji walking beside me
could take it no more
he said:

I think it’s high time now
we dropped a nuclear-bomb
on Islamabad.

An age

Ages now
I can play the role of an old man
with consummate ease.

Challenge all those people
do this job
a better way.

It’s real what is being acted out here.

When you reach this age, barkhurdar
you don’t remain an actor.
